Premier's Summer Reading Challenge
Department of Education - Western Australia.
Children can dive into reading this summer with the Premier’s Summer Reading Challenge 2010/2011. The Challenge is designed to improve children’s literacy skills by encouraging them to read during the summer holidays. Children in Kindergarten to Year 3 are challenged to read for 10 hours – which is less than 10 minutes each day. Children from Years 4 to Year 7 are challenged to read for 15 hours – less than 15 minutes a day. There are great incentives and prizes to be won to keep children motivated throughout the Challenge, including a family holiday to Broome valued at $6000 from QBE Insurance. For every five hours children read, they can collect a sticker and prize from their local library. Some libraries around the State will also be hosting visits from authors of children’s books during January. Parents can take part in the Parent Challenge and show their children how much fun reading is. Parents simply need to read for 15 hours over the Challenge period and tick the box on the reading log to go into the draw to win one of two prize packs including an ereader, Fremantle Press ebooks and a $100 gift voucher from eBooks.com.
