How to Make Play-Doh
A great activity and one the kids always enjoy is playing with play-doh. Here is a recipe you can make at home for a few dollars a batch (as opposed to the expensive store bought versions).
If you keep this in an airtight container or wrapped in cling wrap this recipe will last for weeks in your fridge. Just take it out, let the kids play and put it back in the fridge when they're done!
Ingredients
- 2 cups plain flour
- 2 cups of water
- 1 cup of cooking salt
- 2 tablespoons of cooking oil
- 4 tablespoons of cream of tartar
- food colouring
Method
Combine all your ingredients in a large saucepan on the stove. Turn on the heat and stir continuously until mixture congeals and firms. Once it turns into a big ball resembling play-doh it is ready. Turn off the heat and allow it to cool down (caution, it's very HOT). Once its cool you might like to knead the play-doh to make it smooth because the outside tends to get a little crusty in the saucepan.
You can then give the kids any cookie cutters, rolling pins, or any other kid-safe kitchen utensils to use to play with their doh. Good Times!!
