School holiday ideas for the whole family

These days life is so hectic and often parents find it hard to make the time for their kids. Putting food on the table seems to be the first priority for most parents. However, it is vital for parents and kids to spend time together. The following are some simple ideas that the whole family can enjoy without breaking the budget!

• Go to the beach, swim, make sandcastles or collect shells.
• Do some gardening together. Get your kids involved by asking them to plant a tree or dig the veg patch.
• Make a kite and go down to the nearest park and practice flying it.
• There are so many lovely bush lands in Canberra - go for a walk in a nearby bush land and discover different plants and animals.
• If you have camping gear, put it up in your backyard and camp overnight.
• Go out to the Brand Depot and watch planes take off and land (we often do this with our 3 years old son and he loves it).
• Go bike riding - in your area or around some of the beautiful lakes in Canberra (Lake Burley Griffin, Lake Ginninderra, and Tuggeranong Lake).
• Go fishing in your local creek or river (Pine Island and the lakes mentioned above are great places for fishing).
• Go on a bus ride to the city or visit a friend.
• Go for a swim at your local pool.
