An Inexpensive Activity that Promotes Family Bonding During Holidays

When your children are on holidays from school figuring out how to keep them busy and active can become a real chore.  If you want to spend time and bond with your children and are on a limited budget, here is an activity that you and your family can have fun and enjoy each other while bonding with one another.  This activity costs nothing but spending time with your children.

Using imagination to create a no-book story time.

This activity is wonderful if you really want to know how your child thinks as well as finding out how imaginative and creative they are, as well as testing your ability to be creative and show your children that you still have an imagination.
A perfect time to do this activity is right after dinner, bath time, and just before bedtime when you want your children to wind down.  After your children are in their pajamas, have them bring a blanket or pillow down to get comfortable.  You may wish to get your pajamas on as well.  This will promote a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.  Have everyone gather together and sit or lie in a circle.  Turn down the lights, maybe even light candles and turn all other distractions off.  If you wish to write these stories down for later, that is up to you.

If you have more than 1 child, let your children take turns picking a subject.  The child that picked the subject should be the one to begin the story.  The child speaks 2-3 sentences to begin the story, and then you go around the circle giving everyone the opportunity to partake in the story.  When the story is over be sure to have the child that came up with the subject to say The End.  The best part is, it doesn’t matter if it makes sense or just goes in different directions, and the whole point of this activity is bonding time and having fun with your children.  It really is amazing to see the imagination of children at work.

You will find that after doing the no-book story time a few times, that it could possibly start a new family activity.  This activity is one that you can do as often as you want, or as little as you want and you will never hear the same story twice.  Give it a shot and see what kind of funny, scary, or dramatic story you and your family can come up with, and most importantly, just have fun!
