School Holiday Cash Savers

School holidays can be a real stress maker for parents when it comes to the extra expenses the holidays invariably bring. Also the current economic situation is not helping to lower anyone’s stress levels and working families are often the hardest hit in these times of economic downturn. Following are some ideas to help beat the financial woes away and make the holidays with our kids the enjoyable, precious time it should be.

Choose the Cheaper Option

Sure it would be nice to be able to stay in five star luxury when we go on holiday, but the reality for a lot of working class families is that that just isn’t an option. That doesn’t mean you have to miss out on going on holidays all together. There are a few alternatives to make things more affordable. Firstly, you can stay in a self-contained cabin/apartment/unit. These normally come equipped with a full kitchen and appliances. That way you can prepare all your own meals as you would if were you at home. If that option still stretches your budget too far, why not consider camping? Campsites are a much cheaper option and offer their own sense of adventure for the kids. Pack up the bikes and the tent; head to a national park or campsite near the beach and holiday memories are yours there for the making.

Eat in

Whether you’re spending the holiday period at home, or away, eating out everyday becomes quite expensive and can really sap your financial resources that can be better spent on activities or other holiday time fun. Plan activities around meals and if you can’t, if you’re going to be out all day for example, pack your own food and take it with you. Theme parks, resort restaurants, park kiosks and the like can charge whatever they like because of the convenience they offer and if you choose that option your funds will diminish rapidly.

Start Traditions

Kids don’t need to have school holidays jam-packed with expensive trips here there and everywhere. Just as kids thrive on routine, they also love tradition. If, each time the school holidays roll around you take them camping, or you go to grandma’s for a part of the holidays or you have pizza and sleep overs with their friends, the kids will begin to look forward to those traditional holiday time activities. Most of us have some sort of memory from own childhood that we used to always do as a family. Help create the same lifelong memories for your own children. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to make fond memories, just good times.
