Lazy Day Activities to Keep the Kids Entertained

What to do when you’ve been at work all week and the kids have been at school and all you want to do is put your feet up and relax and the kids are whinging that they’re bored. Here are some ideas that will take minimum effort on your part and will provide hours of fun for the kids.

Set Up A Beauty Salon

Rummage through your old makeup and nail polish supplies and dig out a few items that you can do without and set up a beauty salon for the kids. They can give each other makeovers and manicures and pedicures. This may be best done outside or on an old towel or blanket to prevent any mess. Also just make sure none of the children are young enough that they might decide to eat the supplies!

Build them a “Hideout”

Remember when you were a child and you would make a cubby or a hideout out of mums sheets and blankets and chairs from around the kitchen table? Times haven’t changed that much and kids still love this game. Build them their hideout and they’ll hide out for hours, leaving you to relax in front of the telly.

Make their Own Board Game

Set them up with some supplies and set them on a task to create their own board game. Tell them they need to design the board game and work out all the rules and how the game is played and how you win. Definitely one for the older kids but one that will keep them busy for ages.

Turn the Lounge Room into an Arcade

If your lucky enough to own one of the many games consoles on the markets these days, you could go to the video store and hire a bunch of different games, get some popcorn and nibblies and let the kids have a video game day. If hiring games isn’t in the budget you could try swapping some with a friend or relative. Sitting around playing video games all day may not be your idea of quality time for your kids but once in a while it won’t hurt and you have to decide how much you want that lazy day! (haha)

Encourage Them To Read

Reading is great for kids, it helps them in many ways from expanding their vocabulary and attention span to teaching them about the world around them and all the people in it. Why not take them down to your local library, let them choose their own books and let them spend some quite time reading in their rooms. Not everyone is a reader, that’s true, but encouraging a love of reading can be very beneficial to your child.
