How to Make Home Made Paint

Do your kids love to paint but you get tired of spending the money on expensive store bought paints? Here is a recipe to make your own homemade paint to save you some cash and keep the kids happy at the same time. This is a flour recipe so will not harm a toddler, should they decide to have a taste.

Home Made Paint

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 tablespoons of salt
  • 1 ½ cups of cold water
  • 1 ¼ cups of hot water
  • food colouring

Method

  1. Place your flour and water in a saucepan. Beat with an egg whisk until smooth. The cold water will allow all the lumps of flour to be worked out to give you a smooth consistency.
  2. Add the hot water and boil on the stove until your paint thickens.
  3. Whisk again until smooth
  4. Add drops of food colouring until you get the desired shade.
  5. Store covered in the fridge.

Water Paint

Another recipe that is extremely easy to make is water paint. One thing to be wary of with this one though, is that it will stain your little one's skin if they put their hands in it. It will come off after a couple of baths though.

Ingredients

  • Water
  • Food colouring

Method

  1. Simply mix drops of food colouring in a cup of water until you get the desired colour. This will give the kids a water paint effect.
