How to Make Paper Plate Faces

A fun activity for you to do with the kids or for them to do alone if they're that little bit older is to make paper plate faces or masks. Let their imaginations run free!

What You Need

  • Paper plates
  • Textas, pencils, crayons, paint (check out our website for a homemade paint recipe)
  • Stapler
  • Ribbon or hat elastic
  • Scissors

What To Do

  1. Take your paper plate and have your child draw/paint their face on the plate. This doesn't have to be a self-portrait. They can draw animals or characters such as pirates or fairies etc. or if they prefer they could design a mask using half the plate.
  2. Once they have finished their creation take the plate and cut out two holes where their eyes will be.
  3. Then take your ribbon/hat elastic and measure it from ear to ear on your child's head and cut off the length.
  4. Staple the ribbon/hat elastic to the side of the plate, just above your child's ears. If you are using hat elastic be sure to cut it a bit shorter then your head measurement to allow it to stretch a little.
  5. Then let the kids run about and play whatever their imagination comes up with while you grab a much earned cup of tea.
