How to Make A Cardboard Box Car This activity can be altered slightly so that instead of a car you end up with a train or plane or bus or some other form of transport. Once made, your child can play for ages in their new car.
What You Need
- Medium to large cardboard box. Use your judgement and pick one that will be the right size for your child to stand in and run around in.
- Paper plates
- Paint (check out our website for a great homemade paint recipe)
- Black Marker
- Glue (also find recipe for homemade glue on our website)
- Stapler
- Split pins
- Two long lengths of ribbon
What To Do
- Firstly cut the top and bottom flaps off your box so you are left with just the centre section.
- Have your child paint their vehicle whatever colour/s they like.
- Using the paper plates, glue these on for wheels and headlights. You may wish to have your child paint these also or they can be left white.
- Using another paper plate and a split pin, stick a paper plate on the inside of the vehicle for the steering wheel. If you don't have spilt pins you can simply glue this on, it will just mean the steering wheel is stationary.
- Take your lengths of ribbon, get your child to stand inside their vehicle, and staple the length on to the front and back passing over their shoulders. These straps will enable your child to run around without having to hold up the car.
- Use the black marker to draw on any additions after the paint job to make the vehicle look authentic.
